Great memories

I had wanted to go trekking in Nepal for at least thirty years. As the trek progressed I knew I had made the right choice. Challenging, incredible scenery, three high passes, nice lodges, Everest basecamp and some quieter areas. Purna and his assistant guides worked tirelessly in looking after us with warmth and good humour. I will not forget the last night of the trek in Lukla where we all got up and danced with Purna, the assistant guides and porters to a catchy Nepali tune. Great memories.

Fantastic trek to Everest

Well planned, ample time for acclimitisation. The 3 guides were fantastic especially Kami who looked after us so well, knew so much and was very entertaining, he was also expert on medical matters and provided treatment. He was always supportive and reassuring and Poomba and Lakbar couldn't have been more helpful (carrying my day pack when I had flu). The lodges were comfortable with great staff. Yes the teahouses at higher altitudes were primitive but they are the only option as it is so remote.

Well taken care of throughout

The scenery, culture and people were amazing! Breathtaking mountain views were everywhere. Each day of trekking was well planned out, striking the right balance between new experience, acclimatization and physical challenge. The lodges were very nice with excellent service and food. At the higher altitude villages, the accommodates became more basic as expected, but we were well taken care of throughout. And we could not have asked for a better guide and assistants.

Exceptional guide

Our Sherpa guide, Kami, was very companionable and loved to laugh. He was also extremely knowlegeable and experienced in so many things including flora and fauna, Nepalese history and politics, photography, mountaineering, Tibet and gave us insight, by his example, of the relevance of Buddhism to daily actions. The trip was massively enhanced by his leadership and empathy for the group members. We also had wonderful weather, were lucky with our internal flights and were always well fed.

Exceptional!

Our guide, Kami, was not just our guide, he is more like a long lost friend, a teacher, part of the group. His depth of knowledge and infectious passion for just about everything brightens your day, lightens your load and makes the trek more than you ever imagined it could be. The whole team of porters and guides did everything they could to help us enjoy our trek and The Mk team were always on hand to help with any questions we had or arrangements that needed making or changing - exceptional.

Incredible trip!

What an incredible trip! An amazing experience from start to finish. The guides and the porters were excellent and the Nepalese people are so friendly. Trip was well planned to maximise our time there

A bucket list experience of a lifetime

First, a little context - we are late 50’s, used to mostly flat walking in the UK, but regular visitors to the gym and trekking abroad. This adventure was well paced with a well thought through itinerary, as we have come to expect from MK. We will not hesitate to use this company again. Dwarika’s hotel in Kathmandu is probably in our top 3 hotels that we have ever stayed in. Extend your stay here if you can. Everest Summit Lodges were very good. Tea houses of variable quality but always a decent nights sleep thanks to good quality sleeping bags and hot water bottles provided! On previous MK holidays, we have thought our guides to be very good, but on this occasion, our guide Kami was simply the best! Having been born in the area and previously summited Everest, he knew everyone and every stone, with an extensive knowledge of flora and fauna; he was clearly well loved and well respected. Without his helping handand that of our porter, I’m not sure we would have made it to Base Camp. The trip is classified Strenuous and rightly so, particularly during the last stretch to Base Camp when lower oxygen levels are more noticeable and the terrain more challenging. The itinerary gives good opportunity for acclimatisation, but the downside of this is that you are walking (typically 7.30am to 4pm with an hour for lunch) for 14 days in a row. For acclimatisation days, do not read “rest days”! That said, the scenery throughout was simply stunning, the people so friendly and the sense of achievement great. There is so much to see and enjoy at every stage of this trip, the memories of which will stay with us for a lifetime.

Took my breath away

Took my breath away from start to finish, was even better than I had hoped for. Great guides and porters and the Nepalese are such a beautiful people you can’t help but fall in love with the place. I saw things and places on the trek that I will think of daily till I finally pop off.

Once in a lifetime trip

I booked this trip on the expectation that it would be a once in a lifetime trip, and so it turned out. I couldn’t fault anything. The accommodation, guides and food were fantastic and coupled with the magnificent scenery this was indeed a trip that was unforgettable and will never be beaten.

Wonderful trek

Wonderful trek. Amazing views. Acclimatisation days were well spaced out and timed to make sure we all made it to EBC. The luxury lodges were comfortable, clean and welcoming with plenty of good Nepalese food. We had an excellent guide in Dambe, - friendly, genuinely keen that we saw everything, knowledgeable, very good English, nothing was too much trouble. Couldn't have been a better trek.
