A most enjoyable week in which we clambered up some of the Lofoten's peaks and were rewarded by stunning views in fine sunny weather. The trip fully met our expectations.
The best one week walking trip I have ever been on. Whatever you do add the Dolomites Circuit to your "bucket list". The scenery is stunning, the route well planned and the mountain Refugios all had a bar with ice cold beers to salute the end of the day.
The Camino del Norte has many treasures to discover; the friendly local people, the wonderful local delicacies at fabulous, atmospheric hotels such as Parador de Vilalba and Pazo Santa Maria, walking through rural Northern Spain through pretty forest trails, and of course, arriving at the imposing Santiago de Compostela, to complete the pilgrimage.
This was a lovely holiday. Travelling everywhere by public transport, staying in a ryokan, minshukus and a temple, and walking every day were unexpected highlights. As well as the Nakasendo Trail itself, we particularly enjoyed our stay at the temple in Koya-san and walking the Yamanobe No Michi trail, as well as visiting Nara and Kyoto.
This was a well organised and wonderfully varied trip. The conversations with local people about their country were part of what made it special for me as well as the many amazing sights. There were some added delights that were a complete surprise, like seeing fireflies on the river at Kampot, delicious food and delightful hotels.
We were well looked after.
The trip was well organised and the problems we encountered were dealt with very well.
What we enjoyed about travelling with Mountain Kingdoms was the small group size. We were the smallest group we saw and for us that made the trip all the more special and manageable. A well organised trip.
If anyone is looking for an alternative to overcrowded routes in popular European mountain ranges the Balkans is certainly it. Mountain Kingdom's '3 Peaks of the Balkans' trek really whets the appetite for further exploration of this stunningly beautiful area. It has all the intrepid hiker could want: incredible scenery, the chance to see flora and fauna in abundance and the opportunity to experience the warm hospitality of the balkan people. I will definitely be returning!
A very enjoyable trip. The scenery was beautiful; the wild flowers – gentians, orchids, primulas, geums, etc – provided the best display we have ever seen (including in the Alps), the accommodation and food were generally very good and the itinerary was well planned (it was good to intersperse the trekking with trips to two beautiful monasteries; and we liked having a full last day of trekking – by contrast, some trips peter out with only a brief walk on the final day). Semir Kardovic was an excellent guide and we enjoyed his company.
