Cycling tour of Burma

Very active trip, never a dull moment.

Wonderful Zambia safari

What an experience. In addition to countless other wildlife, I tracked seven lions on foot, watched three leopards with their kill in trees just above me, saw two giant porcupines taking an evening stroll and marvelled at hundreds of brilliant bee-eaters. And the best bit was that I didn't have to share them with anyone else; no noisy vehicles, no distractions. Just us, our superb guide and an armed scout out in the wild Zambian bush.

This trip exceeded our expectations - brilliant.

The whole experience was the type of trip we were looking for to gain an insight into rural Sri Lanka away from the tourist areas with a particular emphasis on pristine scenery, fauna and flora and the opportunity to meet local and varied villagers. The accommodation was interesting and exciting, we always selected the local food and were never disappointed by random service stations for lunch to top of the range hotels. Every Sri Lankan we encountered couldn't have been more welcoming. A particular mention should go to Hafeel our young trekking guide whose friendly nature has rewarded him with a wealth of contacts along the way. He was able to give us an insight into the homes of Tamil tea pickers, paddy field workers..... over many cups of tea. His experienced eyes spotted so many birds and other animals and countless interesting plants.

Golden Trails of Burma (Myanmar) - Tailor Made Holiday

We thoroughly enjoyed our first holiday both with Mountain Kingdoms and to South East Asia. The programme was packed and varied and we observed life in rural areas and in the busy cities as well as visiting numerous beautiful temples and pagodas. Our guide Zaw Zaw was very informative and friendly and patient and helpful when we fancied some retail therapy. Burma is a lovely place to visit as there is so much to see and the people were really friendly.

Cardamom Mountains Trails

Mini adventures in Cambodia

Three older ladies had an adventure: We overheard our first guide inform the second one that we looked a lot younger than we were - I wonder if he knew we were listening? This holiday was full of experiences and movement across the country between sights and environments: We seemed constantly to be on the move (often in boats of varying size) without feeling any rush and without any boredom in the travelling. The walks we did were never as strenuous as those we do regularly in Lakeland and so we were comfortable if a little warm. The trip included so many aspects of this country and its past - the recent history of the killing fields and ancient history of the old Capital at Siem Reap, the old and new in cities, forests, along rivers and on the coast. So much to see and appreciate. We expected to be wowed by the sights but we didn't expect to love the food and the people so much. We were so well looked after and yet every day was an adventure: Sunrise at Angkor Wat, sunset and fireflies in Kampot, chips and chilli for breakfast rowing down the river from Chi Phat, coconuts on Rabbit Island beach and pancakes for breakfast at the wildlife release station. Did I mention the carvings in the river and on the temples? Wonderful Cambodia!

Private tour of Burma

We arranged a private tour of Burma following the same itinerary as the one for groups being unable to travel on any of the group dates. We were extremely impressed with Mountain Kingdoms, from the service from the head office beforehand to the delivery of the journey in Burma- everything ran perfectly. Compared to other companies journeys round Burma we really enjoyed the opportunity to walk in rural areas and interact with the communities there. Being in a group of four greatly facilitated this.

Very memorable holiday

Pre-trip information was good e.g. kit list, first aid kit supplies. Also the day-by-day itinerary was how it was, without giving you any false expectations. We did find the mountain Kingdoms kit bag excellent as it fitted nicely into the sled and was very strong. Our leader greatly admired it, wishing she had one!!

South Inylchek Glacier to Khan Tengri

Having travelled with your company many times we know we can rely on you to give us the best possible experience on our holidays.

Antarctica Classic

A scenery beyond words

Antarctica is beyond words, a calming, incomparable continent which claimed my silence.

An unforgettable trek in Canada

The flight from Tyax Lodge to Lorna Lake was a highlight for me. The bird’s eye views of gentle-rolling hills and snow-capped peaks were superb and the experience of taking off and landing on the lake was very exciting and unforgettable.

Wonderful holiday to Burma

Enjoyed using local people as guides in their area as well as having Nyi Nyi to help us. Everything ran smoothly - all transport, both on roads and by water, were very good. Enjoyed the variety of this trip - some walking, train ride, boats etc. Wonderful trip!

Phongun Razi trek, Burma

We loved being in Burma and thought the time spent in Yangon and Mandalay very worthwhile and very enjoyable. The whole trek was beautifully organised and all the people we came in contact with, firstly in the two cities and then on trek, were wonderfully kind, helpful and unfailingly patient, especially our leader Myo and all the porters. I would heavily recommend Mountain Kingdoms to anyone interested.

Luxury Lodges to Ama Dablam Base Camp

Wonderful accommodation

Everest Summit Lodges were great in beautiful settings. The staff were super. The hot water bottles were invaluable. Our hotel in Kathmandu, Dwarika’s Hotel, was superb, and we were upgraded to a wonderful suite for our return stay. We cannot speak highly enough of our Sherpa ‘Prem’. He tailored the trek to our speed perfectly. He spoke very good English and was friendly, conscientious and hardworking.

We loved every day!

This is a fabulous itinerary, and we thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. It was in turn relaxing, fascinating and fun. No two days were the same but every day was made interesting by the very personable guides. The standard of service was always high and the arrangements both in terms of travel and accommodation lived up to our expectations. The big attraction of this trip was the variety of what we did and saw. Never a dull moment ( but occasional ' chill-out' time by a nice pool was always welcome). One of the best holidays we've ever had ( in the last 30 years!)

Mountain Kingdoms' comment: Thank you for posting your review Rachel - we are so pleased to hear you had such a fantastic time on our Indochina tour.

Three Peaks of the Balkans

Spectacular Balkans trek

A seriously great trip! We had loads of adventures. The mountains were really spectacular and every day the trekking was wild and exciting. The best thing though for me was the atmosphere of a country in a time-warp, with incredibly hospitable people and an edgy culture. One of the highlights I think was staying with nomadic shepherds in their summer mountain 'villages' and seeing their way of life. Watching them rounding up their sheep and cattle and penning them for the night to keep them protected from the wolves, and sharing their excellent food and fireside stories. It was absorbing too seeing the different towns and monuments of the three countries; Albania, Kosovo, and Montenegro. It seemed like travelling back in time and yet is pretty much on our doorstep. Good for fitness and some good hard walking made this a trip to remember.

Gentle Walking Bhutan

Wonderful two week holiday in Bhutan

A great two weeks spent exploring Bhutan with a great guide - Karma. This is my third visit to Bhutan and I was happy to be seeing new places. Everything went to plan and both Guide and Driver could not do enough to ensure we were well cared for. We had some super "spontaneous" experiences - came across the semi-final of an Archery competition; a darts match; and even met and spoke to the King!! Also stumbled upon a Buddhist ceremony involving a bonfire and firecrackers. The walking was challenging, being at altitude, but there was always an alternative if you couldn't or didn't want to walk.

Zanskar Dream Trek

Remote and adventurous

I particularly enjoyed following the Zumlung Chu through the canyons. This part of the trek provided the ‘adventure’ component of this trip. I found the river crossings fun despite the fact that on those particular days we were crossing the river 20-30 times. We hardly saw any other trekkers. It was good to get way to remote areas. The setting of the monasteries perched on high the cliff sides was just spectacular. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. I like the fact that Mountain Kingdoms are able to offer innovative and interesting routes on their treks which few, if any, other companies offer.

Druk Path Trek

Excellent, varied trip to Bhutan

The mixture of trekking and culture was excellent. Punakha was beautiful.

Spectacular scenery on Peru trek

What I enjoyed about travelling with Mountain Kingdoms was the good company on trek, excellent guides and spectacular scenery.
