Days 1-2 | Fly overnight from London to Kathmandu where we recommend staying at Dwarika’s superb heritage hotel. |
Day 3 | Fly to Paro in Bhutan then drive to Thimphu and enjoy some sightseeing. You may visit the giant Buddha statue for splendid views of the town or find out more about traditional Bhutanese arts at the National Textile Museum and the Paper Making Factory. In Thimphu you can choose to stay at either the premium Druk Hotel or opulent Taj Tashi. |
Day 4 | Enjoy the local countrside and take a walk to pretty Cheri Gompa before returning to the luxury of your hotel. Early autumn visits can be timed to attend the Thimphu festival - one of Bhutan's most impressive. |
Day 5 | Today you drive to Punakha across the Dochu La Pass with its 108 chortens and magnificent mountain views. You can also take a pleasant walk en route to visit the 'Divine Madman’s' Temple, built in honour of one of Bhutan's most loved, and most interesting, saints. Your hotel for the next two nights is the sublime Uma Punakha. |
Day 6 | You can enjoy a full day's walk today to Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal Chorten and along the river valley to visit Punakha Dzong. A shorter valley walk can be arranged if you'd prefer time to relax and enjoy the superb facilities at your hotel. |
Days 7-8 | You make the return drive to Paro then walk to Taktsang Monastery - Bhutan's most iconic sight. It's a bit of a climb but well worth the effort. Your final nights in Bhutan can be spent at either luxurious Uma Paro hotel or stylish Hotel Zhiwaling. |
Days 9-11 | Leaving Bhutan, you fly to Kathmandu where you can take a walking tour of Kathmandu’s key sights and spend time at leisure. Celebrate the end of your holiday in style at Dwarika’s renowned Krishnapan restaurant before flying home. |
