The ruins at Pisac are considered to be one of the finest remaining Inca archaeologic sites anywhere and make a perfect introduction to the many Inca ruins you will see on your trip. Back in town you can visit a traditional bakery to try freshly baked bread or empanadas and learn about the guinea pigs of Peru. |

Your route will be an original and rarely used Inca trail which is still in pristine condition in many places. |

You then head back across the plain to the interesting town of Maras where you will have a tasty picnic lunch. Then you will walk down to Ollantaytambo, a short hike through a a very traditional farming area, following an old Inca trail and a great opportunity to experience both Inca culture and the living culture of Peru today. You may see people plowing with oxen or harvesting by hand, or perhaps just the colorfully dressed locals walking down to town from the communities above, where most still wear traditional clothing. You will follow an old Inca trail down the steeply terraced valley to arrive at Ollantaytambo, with its narrow cobbles streets and fabulous Inca ruins. Later you will visit the organic farm of El Albergue where you will enjoy a traditional Pachamanca lunch. |

After an initially challenging ascent you reach Wiñay Wayna, a beautiful Inca ruin full of swallows and orchids. You then walk the last spectacular part of the Inca Trail through cloud forest to arrive at Inti Puncu, ‘the Gateway of the Sun’ and your first glimpse of Machu Picchu.
